Limestone paving does not always need to be sealed, especially where a natural weathered appearance is preferred. Dense Indian limestone often has lower water absorption than many sandstones, but it is still a natural calcium-based stone and can stain or change tone over time.

Sealing is often recommended for Black limestone, dining areas, barbecue areas, shaded patios, areas under trees and places where staining or colour retention is a concern. If sealing is used, choose a breathable impregnating sealer suitable for limestone.
